Mahasiswa di Jerman dan Indonesia relatif usianya setara. Kemampuan belanjanya juga relatif setara. Tapi soal HP (handphone) berbeda jauh. Di Jerman yang sering gonta-ganti model HP itu relatif anak ABG (SMA) yang dianggap belum dewasa (belum 18 tahun). Sedangkan kalau sudah usia mahasiswa rata-rata HP nya mengikuti kebutuhan saja. Jarang yang berganti-ganti HP hanya sekedar mengikuti mode. Yang nekat seperti itu, alih-alih dapat pandangan kagum, malah dapat pandangan di”remeh”in dianggap tidak dewasa-dewasa.
Padahal kalau dari sisi kemampuan kantong, mereka juga mampu gonta-ganti HP seperti mahasiswa di Indonesia, tetapi pandangan kebutuhan yang membedakan. Mungkin dalam fikiran mereka, daripada ganti-ganti HP lebih baik mereka tabung buat liburan ke Luar Negeri. Begitu juga soal isi pulsa, jangan kaget banyak mahasiswa yang mengisi pulsa itu 15 EU (sekitar 200 ribu) setiap 3 bulan sekali. Padahal satu kali kirim sms itu 20 cent (lebih dari 2000 ribu).
Jadi kalau mahasiswa di Indonseia banyak yang “iri” mendengar cerita mahasiswa di Jerman bisa liburan ke luar negeri, mungkin bukan karena memang mereka mampu banget, tetapi mereka nabung-nya kuat. Di atas baru soal HP, soal baju (fashion) he he he he baju, sepatu, tas nya itu – itu saja. Ada memang 1-2 yang sering ngikutin fashion tapi itu termasuk barang langka. Jajan makan di luar bareng-bareng (di restorant) jarang sekali, sebab itu mahal, apalagi di Jerman sekarang BBM dan harga susu juga lagi meroket.
