Alasannya, Taufik Kiemas berhasil meyakinkan Megawati bahwa berkoalisi dengan Demokrat akan menguntungakan PDIP untuk jangka panjang. Menurut Burhanudin, Taufik juga memberikan garansi menawarkan Puan Maharani agar bisa masuk dalam kabinet SBY.
Menurut Burhanudin, berkoalisinya PDIP dan Demokrat akan merusak hubungan Demokrat dengan partai yang sedari awal mendukung SBY. Partai Keadilan Sejahtera (PKS), kata Burhanudin, akan menjadi parta yang palng tersakiti atas bergabungnya PDIP. “Koalisi yang ideal dan permanen menjadi sulit untuk diwujudkan,” tambah Burhanudin.
