Blog ini umumnya dipakai sebagai media partisipasi karyawan dalam setiap isu. Bisa juga dimanfaatkan untuk ajang diskusi, menampung gagasan, dan mengumumkan sesuatu, misalnya jadwal rapat. Ini berguna terutama bila tempat karyawan bekerja terpisah-pisah di beberapa lokasi. Kelebihan blog dibanding mailing list internal adalah sifatnya yang interaktif.

Blog eksternal adalah media komunikasi antara karyawan atau juru bicara perusahaan dan publik, terutama konsumen mereka. Manajemen, misalnya, dapat memakainya untuk mengumumkan daftar produk-produk atau layanan baru — atau produk/layanan yang sudah habis masa edarnya. Ia juga dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai tempat menanggapi serta mengklarifikasi kritik dan isu yang tengah berkembang soal produk layanan atau kebijakan sebuah perusahaan.
